The man who did it, story of the first unofficial UK 300 game

Trophy given to Charles

Charles Hollingbery – The Man who did it – First 300 game in 1962 but not made official.
Albert Kirkham became the first official 300 by an Englishman in 1965 but three years earlier on September 29th 1962, Charles Hollingbery rolled 300 at Basildon Bowl.

The ruling back then was that a perfect game was witnessed by the centre manager and in this instance was not done.

Half blind in in one eye and a strained leg, he bowled at half his normal speed for the perfect game. Thanks to Neata Hollibery we have a photo of the trophy presented to her Grand father Charles.
