History of Tenpin Bowling in the UK Part 95 – Top Rank Bowl Silver Street Doncaster

By Tenpin Bowling Proprietors Association President John Ashbridge

The 28-lane Brunswick equipped Top Rank Bowl Doncaster opened on Monday 30th November 1964. Very little is known about the centre but it is believed that it was still operating in May 1968 and it possible lasted until the Rank Organisation closed all its remaining centres during the 1970/71 period.

Update from Tom Flynn – I’m fairly certain Donny was one of the last Top Rank centres to close.  It was certainly going strong in May 1969 when, together with my mates Geoff Badswell and Chris Massarella, we broke the World Marathon Tenpin bowling record of 60 hours with a time of 77 hours and 40 minutes.  I think the centre closed some time late in 1970 as we then had to go to Rotherham to bowl.
