CBC Bowl Birleyvale Frechville Sheffield

This 12-lane centre, the first tenpin bowling centre in Sheffield, opened on 27th September 1963. Situated in the Sheffield suburb of Frechville the centre was built and operated by CBC Enterprises Ltd, believed to have been a local building company.

The centre was fitted with equipment supplied by AMF Bowling and the centre become popular very quickly. However, with the opening of other bowls in Sheffield, business levels settled down at a lower level and the centre was earmarked for closure in 1966. At that time and, following a public appeal, the management were persuaded to keep the centre open. It is not clear when closure did take place but is believed that it may have been around late 1967.
